Preventative suspension maintenance
50-Hour Fork & Shock Service
Routine preventative maintenance to refresh lubrication, remove contamination and keep your mountain bike suspension moving smoothly between complete internal services.
Routine Suspension Maintenance
The CJSuspension 50-hour service is designed to maintain smooth suspension movement and protect internal components between complete 100-hour services.
This service focuses on the regularly contaminated and lubricated areas of the fork or rear shock. It is suitable for suspension that is functioning correctly but is due for preventative maintenance.
Routine workshop maintenance

Fork maintenance
Fork Lower-Leg Service
A fork lower-leg service removes contaminated lubricant from the lower assembly and refreshes the components responsible for smooth movement and external sealing.
The lower legs are removed, cleaned and inspected. The dust wipers and foam rings are cleaned or replaced where required, fresh lubricating oil is added and the fork is reassembled to the correct specifications.
This service does not include a complete damper or air-spring rebuild unless additional work is approved.
Rear-shock maintenance
Rear-Shock Air-Sleeve Service
A rear-shock air-sleeve service refreshes the lubrication and seals within the external air-can assembly.
The air sleeve is removed, cleaned and inspected. The required air-sleeve seals are replaced or serviced, fresh lubricant is applied and the shock is reassembled and pressure tested.
This service does not include a complete damper rebuild or internal nitrogen service unless additional work is approved.
Protect your suspension
Why Routine Servicing Matters
Dirt, moisture and contaminated lubricant gradually build up around suspension seals and sliding surfaces. Continued riding can increase friction and accelerate wear to expensive components.
Routine maintenance helps keep the suspension moving smoothly, protects the stanchions and damper shaft, maintains external sealing and reduces the amount of contamination entering the suspension.
Regular servicing is particularly important for riders using their bikes in wet, dusty, muddy or high-use conditions.
Service suitability
When a 50-Hour Service Is Suitable
- The suspension is functioning normally but is due for routine maintenance
- The fork or shock still has consistent damping performance
- There are no major oil leaks or internal noises
- The suspension has been used in wet, muddy or dusty conditions
- The fork feels slightly dry or less sensitive but has no major fault
- You want to maintain the suspension between complete internal services
- The bike has completed a period of regular riding or racing
- You want an inspection before a major riding trip or event
Major faults and wear
When a Full Service May Be Required
A 50-hour service is not intended to repair internal damper faults or significant mechanical damage.
A complete 100-hour service or specialist repair may be required if the suspension has lost damping control, makes internal noises, repeatedly loses pressure, remains stuck down, has severe oil leakage or has damaged internal components.
If a major fault is found during inspection, the workshop will contact you before completing additional work.

50-hour service information
Frequently Asked Questions
Important information about service intervals, suitability and additional repair requirements.
Does the suspension have to be exactly 50 hours old?
No. The service name describes routine preventative maintenance rather than requiring an exact hour reading. Riding conditions, use and manufacturer recommendations should also be considered.
What is the difference between a 50-hour and 100-hour service?
The 50-hour service focuses on routine external lubrication and sealing areas, such as fork lower legs or a rear-shock air sleeve. The 100-hour service is a complete internal strip, inspection and rebuild that includes the damper and internal assemblies where applicable.
Does the price include both the fork and rear shock?
No. The displayed price is from $150 per suspension unit. A fork and rear shock booked together are treated as two separate service items.
What happens if an internal fault is found?
If the suspension requires a complete service, repair or additional replacement parts, the workshop will contact you before completing significant extra work.
Are replacement seals included?
The required routine service seals may be included depending on the suspension model and service requirements. Damaged hard parts or components outside the standard service are charged separately.
Can I send my suspension from outside Queenstown?
Yes. Suspension can be sent to the workshop by courier from anywhere in New Zealand. Complete the booking form before sending it and package the suspension securely.
How long does the service take?
The target workshop turnaround is normally 24–48 hours after the suspension arrives. Parts availability, additional damage or specialist repairs may extend the turnaround time.
